How long does each counselling session last?
Each session lasts between 50 minutes to 1 hour. This time discrepancy is built in to ensure that we finish in an emotionally safe place.
How regularly will I see the counsellor?
Its best if you can commit to one session every six to ten days, as the best results are achieved when there is consistency around the work being done. It is worth noting that Emma is unable to guarantee that you can have the same time and date every week and so there is a need to be flexible with when you can attend. Emma does offer both weekend and evening appointments.
Where do I go for my counselling?
Emma has a comfortable private practice at her home in to Sutton Coldfield. If you are an organisation and would like Emma to attend your premise this may be arranged. Home visits are occasionally possible for those with mobility difficulties and will be assessed on an individual basis.
How many sessions will I need?
Every person and their difficulties are unique and therefore it is impossible to know how many sessions you may want or need. Some people wish to work on only one aspect of their life whilst others want a complete overhaul of their relationships worries and challenges. You will be asked to commit to eight sessions initially and at this point you will have greater insight about the therapeutic work that you want to do. You are in control of your journey and providing that you give at least 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment you may stop at any time. Some clients choose to work for several sessions, take a break to implement the changes and then return to work on an alternative aspect of their life. Whatever you choose is okay and we can work out your personal approach to your enhanced life together.
Do I have to pay for counselling?
Yes, fees are £50 per session. You may pay by cash on the day of your appointment or by bank transfer a day in advance. Parents and relatives may make payments on your behalf if you are receiving help with paying costs. Invoices may be produced for organisations only and are to be paid within 28 days.
Will anyone know about what I discuss in therapy?
Counselling is a confidential service and this means that your information will not be shared with anyone.
If you are under 18 years old then you may come to counselling with consent from your parents, or carers. Your parents are not entitled to know about what you discuss in therapy, you are entitled to confidentiality the same as adults. If at any time you wish for Emma to share any information with your parents then you can ask for this and decide what information is shared.
If you are an organisation sending your staff for counselling this too is a confidential service. The appointment times and dates will be shared for the purpose of invoicing.
For more information please refer to the BACP ethical framework which Emma will adhere to. Click here to review.
Please note that there are some limitations to confidentiality and in these circumstances Emma must tell a professional what you said in therapy if
